Beautiful dynamic lighting effects with pixel neon

Digital neon, also known as pixel neon, magic neon or dream color neon, is ideal for creating a wide range of dynamic lighting effects because the LEDs can be individually controlled. With a standard neon or LED strip, the entire strip can only be set to one color or white tone at a time. With digital neon, however, every 10 cm can be controlled individually, making it possible to create special effects such as chasing lights or rainbow effects. This pixel neon is RGB, meaning it can produce all RGB colors as well as cool white.

How do I connect digital neon?

To use digital neon you need a dedicated digital / pixel controller. Without this controller the neon cannot be used. The controller sends a data signal through the neon which controls the individual LEDs. There are several types of digital controllers available, ranging from simple pre-programmed controllers to advanced controllers that you can fully program yourself. These advanced controllers are suitable for large installations and even for projecting video effects if you create a matrix using LED neon.

As with any LED neon that operates on 24 volts, this neon also requires a 24V power adapter.

Additional accessories you can use include straight mounting profiles, flexible mounting profiles, and separate mounting clips. To shorten, solder and seal the neon in a waterproof way you can use end caps and silicone sealant.

How do I solder digital neon?

Inside the neon tube there is a standard digital LED strip. This strip has three solder pads: +24V, – (ground), and data. This means you need to solder three wires to the neon. For smaller installations you can connect +, – and data directly to the controller since the current will remain relatively low. For larger installations we recommend wiring + and – separately for the power supply, while running the data and – line separately to the controller.

Please note that digital neon has a signal direction. There is a data IN and a data OUT solder pad. The controller must always be connected to a data IN pad. If you connect multiple neon sections together, you must connect the data OUT of the previous section to the data IN of the next section.

Prefer not to solder yourself? No problem. We can supply the neon fully prepared and cut to size, with connection wires attached and end caps glued in place. Feel free to contact us for a quote or if you have any questions.
