How does a dual white LED strip work?
A dual white LED strip contains LEDs in two white tones: cool white and warm white. Using a special dimmer, you can mix these two tones in a certain ratio to create the desired white color: from atmospheric, yellowish warm light to functional cool white light, and everything in between. You need a dual white controller to control this strip. This often includes a remote control that allows you to adjust both the white tone and brightness. You can also connect a dual white LED strip to a smart home system such as Philips Hue, Google Assistant, and more.
In which situations can I use a dual white LED strip?
Dual white LED strips are perfect for places where (functional) white light is needed. A dual white LED strip does not include RGB colors, so you can only set white light in a specific color temperature, not other colors like red or blue. If you don’t need these extra RGB colors and want a maximum amount of white light with an adjustable color temperature, then a dual white LED strip is perfect for you. These LED strips have relatively high power output and therefore produce a large amount of white light.
Where in and around the house can I use a dual white LED strip?
These LED strips are suitable for many different applications, from lighting in the kitchen, in a cove, along the ceiling, behind bookshelves, in cabinets, to lighting your terrace or for example a bathroom mirror. When using them outdoors or in humid areas, you should use a waterproof LED strip. You can also find these on this page. LED strips are extremely versatile and can be used in many ways, even in places where regular lighting is not suitable or there is no space for it. An LED strip is small and thin, so it fits anywhere!
What do I need to connect the LED strip?
These LED strips operate on 12V or 24V. First of all, make sure you choose a suitable power supply with the correct voltage. The wattage of the power supply is determined by the power consumption of the LED strip, which is listed in the specifications of each strip. Example calculation: You want to connect 5 meters of an LED strip rated at 12 watts per meter, so the total power consumption is 5 x 12 = 60W. You will need a power supply of 60 watts or more. You can always choose a power supply with a slightly higher wattage, as it will only deliver the power that is required. In this example, you could also use a 90-watt power supply.
In addition to the power supply, you will also need a dual white controller. These come in different types and can generally be controlled in two ways: using a standard remote control, or via an app (for example your own smart home system).
